Supporting the bereaved families of sherpas and everyone affected by climbing accidents, earthquakes and natural disasters in Nepal

Some background

Having been caught up in the Nepal earthquake of 2015, James Lamb, from Scotland, was determined to continue his work with his friend, Tashi Lama, a Buddhist monk, to improve the lives of local people.

With support from all over the world, the charity has grown from small beginnings, providing much needed clothing and shelter in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, to making a film about the fragility of the Sherpa way of life. The film was produced by BAFTA winner Richard Else, with music by Dougie MacLean and endorsed by Sir Chris Bonington, Doug Scott and Stephen Venables.

Aims of the Foundation

EDUCATION

To rebuild the local school devastated in the earthquake and to continue to provide scholarships to primary, secondary and tertiary students

SANITATION

To bring running water to 500 people

HEALTH

To rebuild the local health centre and provide a full time nurse and essential medicines

Tashi Lama

A Buddhist monk based at Tengboche Monastery, Tashi has lived and studied there for 17 years and was born in the nearby village of Phortse. The monks of Tengboche actively promote eco-tourism and Tashi himself has had a life-long dream to help the many families in this area who are repeatedly devastated by losing one of their members in a climbing incident.

James Lamb

James met Tashi while trekking in the Himalaya in 2014 and, precipitated by an avalanche which tragically killed 16 locals, immediately saw the need to help him realise his lifelong dream. They have been working together ever since.
